A 6-day journey to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro via the Umbwe Route. Known for being the most challenging and direct route to the summit, the Umbwe Route offers a steep and scenic climb, taking you through dense forests and the iconic Uhuru Peak. This route is recommended for experienced climbers seeking an intense and rewarding adventure.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your guide will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. Enjoy a welcome dinner and a briefing on your upcoming climb.
After breakfast, drive to Umbwe Gate for registration. Begin your trek through the dense rainforest on a steep path to Umbwe Cave Camp. This initial stage is a challenging ascent, but the lush scenery is rewarding.
Continue climbing through the forest until the landscape changes to moorland and rocky outcrops. Ascend along the Umbwe Ridge before descending into the Barranco Valley, arriving at Barranco Camp.
Tackle the Barranco Wall and enjoy stunning views of the Heim Glacier. Trek through the Karanga Valley to Karanga Camp, where you will spend the night.
Head towards Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. Prepare for the final ascent with an early dinner and rest.
Begin your summit attempt around midnight, trekking through the darkness to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Complete your descent to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. Transfer back to Arusha for a night of relaxation and celebration of your achievement.
